Chettle

I am growing on 7 acres on Lower Farm in a small village called Chettle which is in the Cranbourne AONB nestled in North Dorset. Chettle is a village of around 100 people who live and work as a community, sharing spaces, meals and celebrations.  My vegetables supply the village shop which is well stocked with a wide array of local farm produce, independent brands, refill dry goods and organic/local meat, eggs and dairy. The shop is popular with visitors from all over the area who come to taste the famous pies, and many of the villagers do their weekly shopping there eliminating the need to go to a supermarket.

Farming can be a very lonely vocation. If crops fail (which is inevitable), there is often nobody around to tell. Farming in Chettle changes that as there are always people around to share in the highs and lows of the daily grind. It is a joy to farm within a community who are interested in soil, biodiversity, bees, birds, bugs (and hedgehogs!), funky and wonky food and eating and living with the seasons. People who are interested in different ways of doing things, a different outlook, a different pace of life.
